Saban's Legacy Cow - Milk Often

Apparently somebody doesn't get it. Maybe it's me, or Saban, but look at this. Who needs David Yost and the other anniversary pooper when you can live off the memories of Power Rangers Past, and shill 1001 re-released Power Rangers toys and cosplay stuff under the "Legacy" line of 20th Anniversary merchandise... until all the POOPERS poison the well with 1001 Saban horror stories on YouTube... but as I said previously that is the problem with this Anniversary, it's nothing more than a cash cow for Saban, celebrating 20 years of Power Rangers be damned, the first and only order of business is milking this for all its worth. Even if Saban could pocket much more by remembering the fans as something more than a source of income.

However Saban apparently has nothing to worry about, because if this one fan I ran into over at Across The Airwaves (one of the hosts of the DC Nation podcast) is any indication fans are more than willing to give Saban a free pass on just about anything being Saban apologists for whatever Saban does wrong. I don't know about them, but just because I have an opinion I am willing to voice, even if it's anti whatever company in question like Saban or Hasbro, I am not a troll. Being a fan of something doesn't mean it's my duty to pile into line behind the professional apologists and agree with everything no matter how much I disagree with it... Derpocalypse anypony?

So Saban is rushing Super Megaforce into production, barely a quarter through Megaforce (which might be half sized and spade and neutered plotwise. Rushing in while insulting and ignoring a majority of Power Rangers Past without even addressing the issue of pre Power Rangers Super Sentai. But it is only mid June... maybe Saban or at the very least Nickelodeon will address the long missing Megaforce, if not the concerns over the Legacy War... stay tuned for updates.

Why is Power Ranger's "Legend Wars" devolving to Saban vs Power Rangers Past?

Yes, Gokaiger didn't try to bring as close to 100% of 35 years of Super Sentai in terms of classic actors and actresses into the show. That would just be insane. Kamen Rider Decade didn't try that either but had a few golden points (Black/Black RX reprising his role for instance). However it seems Saban is going to celebrate turning 20 by having its closets opened, and its nasty skeletons march out to infect all Walking Dead style... good work, Saban, way to go.

Go on YouTube, look up Megaforce, there should be a few minute video that the Legend War is now in production, complete with some photos of the filming to whet your appetite. This, of course, is the war fought in Gokaiger for the 35th Anniversary of Super Sentai... only it's barely in production and already things are coming apatrt. How so? Let me count the ways.

- Saban might have remembered to finish airing regular Megaforce first... remember it unexpectedly ground to a halt at Episode 9, and seems to only be half the size of Goseiger for some odd unfathomable reason. I suspect it may yet be 40 episodes but they wrapped that a long time ago. They're just burning up hiatus weeks before starting again... if there are only 20 episodes though? This might not start again until November!

- If you were hoping turning 20 would make Saban more appreciative of the old gang? Think again. Bad blood dating all the way back to Power Rangers Zeo if not right back to the first generation Power Rangers, insulting generic form letters, and that's only the start! You say there's 70 Saban era Rangers? Saban only wants 10 (1/7th or 14%!)... and they're completely ignoring the Disney era Rangers... which kinda explains snubbing some Mighty Morphin Rangers, since didn't some of them help Disney with the Remastered MMPR?

- Gokaiger? Maybe it wasn't a total 35 year actor reunion, but all 35 years of Super Sentai was fully represented. Saban? Forget snubbing pre Zyurangers Super Sentai, they're trying to Sub over 80% of Saban' s own history AND the Disney era of Power Rangers! How messed up is that!

Saban better stop production on Super Megaforce, do a full inside out evaluation of their priorities, then go into full on Dr. Phil counseling with both the Saban and Disney era Power Rangers. If they're going to deliver a 20th Anniversary Legend War that isn't some shoddily produced, poorly made and executed, quick money maker there needs to be reason... ON BOTH SIDES INCLUDING DAVID YOST AND THE OTHER ANNIVERSARY POOPERS!!

For God's sake, everyone, pretend you give a Mighty Morphin Fuck about your fans and make this happen!

Power Rangers Megaforce Update

As I continue to wait on the laptop I began looking into podcast topics, one being Megaforce... and it is becoming more and more confusing.

Today I went over to Wikipedia to read the Wiki on it, and practically no information is posted on it past basic show info. Worst, the Wiki can't even agree on episode count. According to the main page Megaforce is 40 episodes long, which fits the Goseiger run... however the episode description page says 20 episodes, which is half of Goseiger meaning the other half is only half of Gokaiger... but as I said the show ground to a halt at Episode 9 and there hadn't been a new episode since Early April 2013, two months ago!

So back to youtube for updates... stay tuned. To Be Continued.

Summer 2013 Day 18 : Counting Titles... and the Power Rangers situation.

Even as I continue to wait for that darn laptop to pop up I started counting up the review content so far... mixed bag.

Kamen Rider
Finally found some English Subs of OOOs again on YouTube, but still no Fourze... go figure.

Power Rangers
What?!? Is this right?? Megaforce ground to an unexpected halt at... EPISODE NINE?!? In the middle of the Warstars arc... and they do know there is like 20 or more Goseiger episodes after that, right? But as it stands Episode 10 is MIA (from my understanding of the situation) and the excuse is... So they can gear up for Super Megaforce aka Gokaiger in 2014... say what...

In the past I said this whole idea could have problems launching, the mere fact they can't even complete half of Goseiger seems to prove just that. Really. One adapt at a time stupids! Finish Goseiger before developing Mighty Morphin ADD, or MMADD, and wandering off to screw up Gokaiger...

Problem 1 - All those pre Mighty Morphin era Super Sentai
One of the gimmicks of Gokaiger was the fact the team could henshin (please stop correcting my words auto corrector, I know what I am saying) into any past Super Sentai team, and use their gimmicks. This might be a problem since there is a bit of Super Sentai that never became Power Rangers pre Zyurangers, especially since that is prominent from Episode 1.

Problem 2 - Bringing Go Onger/RPM back into the fold
From the time of Samurai I said they were going to have to reintegrate Go Onger slash RPM back into the main Power Rangers universe... unless they actually did that in Samurai as I said they should have, using the Shinkenger vs Go Onger movie as the template for it, that means they're stuck doing it now... good luck with that one.

Problem 3 - Lack of patience
The first thing Power Rangers fans and reviewers are calling for is patience, but not from the Power Rangers fans as much as from Saban. Patience to slowly adapt Goseiger and then Gokaiger properly, doing right by both series in turn. But with Megaforce suddenly derailed barely a dozen episodes out, Saban rushing Super Megaforce into production, patience is the last thing on Saban' s mind right now, no matter how much reviewers wish otherwise.

How did this all fall apart so fast? Worst am I even going to be able to find any of the nine episodes aired for reviews? We'll see... stay tuned.

Super Sentai
Speaking of Gokaiger I can review that it seems... as well as Goseiger as we compare how far Megaforce got into Goseiger with only nine episodes.

Well... that was unexpected. Looks like we will just be relaunching and right out the starting gate we have a big topic to follow... oh, and a new Kamen Rider series. Stay tuned.

Podcast Update : First 10 episodes of Gobusters to be reviewed

It's not much, but at least someone put the first 10 episodes of Gobusters (2012) up on YouTube for review... whenever the darn laptop shows up.

Let's see, first time I saw a Super Sentai with such clear and obvious Power Rangers references. Their henshin devices are called Morphin Devices, and the first thing the device says is "It's Morphin Time", a clear reference to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (answered by the cry of "Let's Morphin!"... am I the only one who thinks that is bad engrish?)

I though the mega monsters were called MegaZords, but as it turns out that was a first sub error. It is, in fact, Metaroids. Still, one Power Rangers reference is more than enough.

Full review of the first batch if Gorangers episodes coming soon, stay tuned.

Summer 2013 Day 8 : The Point of the Flagging...?

Progress is being made. I should have the laptop in hand soon, and progress will begin rolling forward anew. Hindering said progress? Well as much as I could blame a certain company for all hindrances right now I am muddling through internet wobbles so that is something I have to muddle through.

One thing I shouldn't have to deal with is this few year embargo enforced through youtube flagging and channel closures. Because of that I am looking at a few year old Super Sentai, Gokaiger, and a few year old Kamen Rider. Sure, sure, it would be nice to be up to date on content and with tv-nihon I guess that is possible, but what is the point of all this embargo nonsense.

If both series were being released outside Japan on a regular basis be it on DVD slash Bluray and digital then I could fully understand the whole embargo blocking thing, but that simply is not the case. Maybe because Super Sentai becomes Power Rangers, maybe that is a good reason... except for the fact Super Sentai and Power Rangers are each unique beasts with only x amount of content tying the two together.

Also, mind you, that explains flagging Super Sentai, but not Kamen Rider. Past the original Saban take lifted from Kamen Rider Black RX there hasn't been an Americanized Kamen Rider series since the second attempt with Dragon Knights aka Ryuki. Far more successful than the original attempt it still fell short, and was yanked off the air a few episodes shy if it's finale, and while there was rumors of a new attempt with Decade nobody is doing anything with Kamen Rider on this side of the world... So why care if people want to watch Fourze or Wizard... or whatever comes next? At least sell it for digital download in English Sub to justify all the flaggings.

And that is my biggest gripe. If they were selling it on DVD and digital download then I can see why they're investing tons in bots to flag their stuff, but they're not doing any such thing. Why bother if you can only benefit from people watching your content, going online to import stores to get a hold of toys and region free DVDs and stuff, putting money in the company's pocket they didn't even anticipate making. Yet, for some reason, they consistently shoot themselves in the foot over and over again, especially when a new series premieres and their ban bots are working triple time. Boggles the mind.

Well, like I said before one bright spot is that eventually they stop flagging series after x amount of years. So if your patient eventually you can see Gokaiger, and Fourze, Wizard and GoBusters... eventually.

And yes, the minute they go crazy and ban everything I will have words. Harsh words. Stay tuned.
